A NOTE FROM THE PREACHER:
I just want to write to you, church, about something I observed recently. A few weeks ago a group met in the annex to make about 40 gallon of laundry detergent. They took it up to Community Care for distribution to those who were in need. Food Stamps allow for food items to be purchased but not detergent, toilet paper, etc. Recently, the Ladies Class took toilet paper to 3 distribution places here in town. Once a month, a group meets to send out greeting cards. Twice a month a group meets to sing at two of the nursing homes. We also have some that maintain our own pantry so that the members here at Southland can always utilize. Something else that impressed me was one of our members became aware of a death in a family of one of our youth who attends here. This person took food to the funeral home in the name of the church, saw that flowers were ordered and attended the viewing. At the recent loss of our beloved sister, Vicky, food was taken to the house, to the funeral home, and a beautiful meal was prepared and served to the family.
These are just some of the things that I have just observed THIS PAST MONTH. We may not have "small groups" like a lot of the churches do now days but we certainly have "small groups" out actively doing what Jesus asks us to do --- nurture our fellow man.
I did not name names here because the people are not doing these things for public recognition. There are so many other things that our members are doing that didn't get written about here. I am so proud of this congregation. I love your hearts. I just wanted you to know what is going on around here and let you know if you ever want to become a part of any of this work, let me know and I will get you to the right people.
